The following letter was sent to the Head of Tongan Customs, Ms Lee Deegan, from the World Customs Organisation.

Dear Director General,

On the occasion of your national day, the World Customs Organization joins me in wishing you, your staff and their families our sincerest best wishes on this very auspicious event.

During 2006 the Secretariat will expend enormous efforts to ensure that the WCO Columbus Programme, a dedicated Customs capacity building initiative aimed at facilitating implementation of the SAFE Framework of Standards, becomes a veritable success story. The Programme is an ideal vehicle to consolidate the WCO’s commitment to safer world trade by building sustainable capacity in Customs administrations across the globe. In this respect I shall be counting on the full support of all Directors General during the challenging but exciting times that lay ahead.

In closing, I hope that you and the people of Tonga have a peaceful and joyful celebration.
