The Oceania Customs Organization (OCO) in collaboration with Ministry of Revenue & Customs conducted a National Workshop on WTO Valuation Agreement to Tonga Customs Officials and the Stakeholders from 4th to 15th November 2013. The workshop was part of the Trade Facilitation in Customs Cooperation (TFCC) project funded by the European Union under the European Development Fund (EDF10) and implemented by the OCO secretariat.

It involved consultation with Senior Customs Officials as well as the Private Stakeholders on developing a Customs Valuation Handbook during the first week. The second week saw the delivery of training on Customs Valuation for both Customs and Stakeholders – which mainly consisted of Customs Brokers. There were 35 participants altogether who attended the training. Tonga is a member of both the World Trade Organization and the World Customs Organization and commenced implementing the WTO Valuation Agreement in 2008. The main objective of the training was to enhance the skills and knowledge of both Customs and Stakeholders on the Rules and proper application of Valuation methodology at the national level.

The opening remarks was delivered by Mrs. Irma Daphney Stone, the Chief Executive Officer for Ministry of Revenue & Customs and the training was conducted by Mr. Nicholas Godden from Vanuatu Customs.
