Humanitarian and Disaster relief from Tongan Aotearoa Relief Committee
Tonga Customs front liners collaborate with other Government Agency to help National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) in clearance out of all imported relief goods from Fua’amotu Airport and Queen Salote Wharf. Most of International Humanitarian and Disaster relief goods has been cleared by the Tonga Customs and distributed by the NEMO to most affected areas. The Tonga Community in New Zealand has donated relief goods to some individual families and churches as were organized by Aotearoa Tongan Relief Committee Aotearoa Tonga Relief Committee and the Mataliki Shipping Services Own by A. Cowley & Sons Ltd . Tonga Government specifically granted relief from duty and taxes to support the individual families in Tonga and Business were deeply affected by the HTHH (Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai) Volcanic eruption and the Tsunami on January 15th 2022. Disappointingly, Tonga has been Lockdown due to the influx of Covid – 19 in the Kingdom. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and the 72 hours’ quarantine of relief consignment has caused delay in distribution of relief goods.
