imigration.pngWhen arriving at any of Tonga International Airports, travellers must proceed immediately to a Customs  Officer at Passport Control booths provided for the necessary immigration clearances.

Please note that travellers are required to hold passports with a validity of a minimum of 6 months when entering Tonga.

Visitors entitled to visa free entry (or visa on arrival)

Travellers who are citizens of the following countries may be issued a 30 day visitor visa on arrival into Tonga:

  • Australia, Austria

  • Barbados, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam

  • Canada, Cook Islands, Cyprus

  • Denmark, Dominica

  • Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Finland, France, French Polynesia

  • Germany, Greece

  • Ireland, Italy

  • Japan, Kiribati

  • Luxembourg

  • Malaysia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Monaco

  • Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Niue,Norway

  • Palau, Papua New Guinea, Portugal

  • Russia

  • Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon  Islands, Spain, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Sweden, Switzerland

  • The Bahamas, Turkey, Tuvalu

  • Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America

  • Vanuatu

Visa Requirement

Citizens of all other countries need visas to enter Tonga (prior to arrival). A genuine visitor intending to visit Tonga for a period of not less than 30 days is required to obtain an entry permit issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to arriving in Tonga.

Extension of Stay

To extend your length of stay, contact the Immigration Department at their following Officers:

  • Neiafu, Vava'u E28099 situated at Tonga Development Bank building 1st floor; or

  • Nuku'alofa E28099, Tongatapu situated at the Immigration Department building on Salote Road, Nukualofa E28099.

Conditions of entry

Issuing of visitor visa on arrival shall be subject to conditions, including, that the Traveller holds a VALID RETURN TICKET out of the Kingdom TO A COUNTRY WHICH HE/SHE SHALL IS PERMITTED TO ENTER and the Customs officer is satisfied that the Traveller has sufficient funds to financially maintain himself whilst in the Kingdom.

It is illegal to take up employment, business, and education whilst in the Kingdom on a Visitor's E28099 Visa. All non-Tongan passport holders shall ensure that their visas remain valid for any period for which they are in the Kingdom. Persons in breach of the Immigration Act may be prosecuted and subject to a term of imprisonment or fine or both.
